@longobardir Alota people say that using an oven to heat the board would help melt the gpu and cpu back to it. It won’t, it just messes it up to the point its nonrepairable. the purpose of the heat gun is so that you can aim the heat to the appropiate spots, the entire board needs to be heated but the gpu and cpu should be the ones getting the most heat. I know people who tried the oven thing and it only made matters worst. hope this helped ^^
Anyone try putting the board in an oven @ 350 deg. to re-flow those joints?
Six months after my repair (with flux)… and still working strong. Thanks Gilksy – you deserve a medal!
thanks gilksy1 it worked a treat
Just repaired mine! THANK YOU!!! Although mine was a bit different inside (like the cooler would be bolted on to the metal shield).
this is a very helpful video and you are gracious man for doing it. Now i just had my playstation repaired it is asking me to format the hard drive, but in order to do so i have to delete the data on the hard drive. would you happen to know how to backup the hard drive? maybe with a computer? i could really use some help on this?
@tbone822 once the warrenty seal comes off. (it has to come off to repair to repair it)
you void all warranty. so me having a ps3 with ylod i probably will fix it myself and void the warrenty considerating my ps3’s warrenty is already done.
this voids the warranty i suppose?
After 4 hours i just finished doing this method and it fixed my ps3 ylod
Thanks alot gilksy1 !
Just a question. What level of skill do I need to fix it?
Thanks!
@AwesomeFilmMaker you’re doing it wrong then , i fixed my friend’s ps3 like 3 or 4 months ago and its still working without any problem
Very good tutorial =D
NOTE: If you have a 40gb ps3 check out the detailed tutorial i made for fixing it
@ALL This fix works and yes you may have to do it again that’s why Sony doesn’t give a long warranty when they send it back to you, “MONEY WHORES” I have found out if you use Arctic Silver 5, Rosin Flux, and if you bend those clamps you should use a .025 metal shim between clamp and plastic that put pressure on the board so the thermal paste has a good seal. My system lasted 6 months! No joke!
@chrisrundell fix it and sell it, your gonna have to keep fixing it
worked for me but ylod came back week and a half later…am i just gona have to keep fixing it?
@ElementaLDesigN94 I KNOW , I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE
Thanks gilksy, I used this method on my 40gb ps3, used arctic silver 5 and is working perfectly!
This worked perfectly for me, my ylod is gone!!
@sikhmonster all you need is rubbing alchohol.
what size is the torx screw is t10?
@EverydayThugs I think thats something to do with the wireless
Can anyone please tell me what the tiny black wire does that goes from that random chip in the back, to the front of the ps3? When I first reflowed we broke that wire by accident and my dad said it was too hard to get it back on because the connector was bent or something. My ps3 still worked fine (although now it has ylod for the third time). I also noticed that my fans don’t go loud anymore. Is this wire something that helps the fans to go louder? HELPPP
thanks gilksy i dont have ylod anymore
@ElementaLDesigN94 you get it from the chemist, you can also use nail varnish, it contains acetone which is perfect to get rid of thermal compound
Gilksy1 I just wanted to say thank you very much, this was a very informative walk through on fixing my PS3 YLOD. I followed this step by step guide, and it worked perfectly. My PS3 hasn’t been that quite in a long time. The fan used to run at high speed almost all the time, especially in MW2. You are a life saver!
