Kill Bill Volume 1

Amazon.co.uk Review
Proudly billed as “the fourth film by Quentin Tarantino”, Kill Bill, Volume 1 is actually half of it (if you include his chunk of Four Rooms it’s really the fourth and a quarterth). If Jackie Brown achieved a certain maturity beyond callous cool, then this is his Mr Hyde’s trash picture, which relishes all the things in cinema that are supposed to be bad for you. The opening Shaw Brothers logo and cheesy “our feature presentation” card, redolent of rancid Kia-Ora an… More >>

Having read most of the reviews for this film its seems that
it either falls into the 5 star category or 1 Star.

I’m with the 1 Star folks on this one.

Very Very disappointing given the films we have had previously
    from Tarantino.
This film did not engage me or make me ‘feel’ for the main
character. The main character is just there to get us to the
    fight scenes.
The fight scenes are good but we’ve seen it all before, and better.
They were nothing special and somewhat silly.(One woman v 100 men).
The gore was comedy gore but I guess it was ment to be that way.

One plus point – Uma Thurman was quite good in this. She’s a good
    actress.

I had high expectations from this film mainly because its a
Tarantino film. But I suppose, even he, can’t make a great film everytime.I hope for better in volume 2.

I don’t know why the director dared to use Lucy Liu on such an important role. She is Chinese, not Japanese, and actually has typical Chinese woman looks, which is quite different from Japanese. More beautiful Japanese actress should have play that role instead of Lucy Liu. This is the most disappointing point. Chiaki Kuriyama is amazingly cute!

  4. Sadly, it’s hard to see how this will escape the title ‘Turkey of the Year’. It was watchable, but had an unfinished feel. Qualities that made earlier Tarantinos great – snappy, observational dialogue, classic plots well executed – were missing. All that remains is cartoon violence and a 1970s TV soundtrack.

As good as Kill Bill is some of the films ‘originality’ stems from the earlier Tarrantino screen play in Natural Born Killers, only Tarrantino takes it a few steps forward!
    Great Film nonetheless.
