How do rainforests survive on poor leached soil in the Amazon?

Supposedly the soil in the Terra Firma in the Amazon is poor in nutrients, and is heavily leeched. How do tropical rain forests thrive in these conditions?

    Nutrients usually arrive through the fallen leaf litter. Natures way of recycling. Trees usually have shallow but wide spread root systems to capture nutrients near the surface.

    Recycling of dead vegetation and seasonal flooding brings nutrients. To a small local extent, animal excrement.
