What is the lowest temperature a blue fronted amazon can handle?

Posted by admin acc Comments (2)

I have a blue fronted amazon and we keep him in a room that doesn’t stay heated all the time. The lowest the temp goes is usually around 50 degrees. I cover him with a heavy blanket but I want to make sure this won’t make him sick.

The best way I can answer this is with a question:
Would you be comfortable and able to remain healthy in a room that gets down to 50 degrees?

You need to get a space heater. A radiant heater is best.

50 is too cold. Birds can acclimate just as we do to slight variations in temperature, but are comfortable at about the same temperatures that us humans are comfortable at. 65 is a safe low temp, 85 is an okay high temp. About the same as us. Try looking up a thermo-perch. They’re plastic and plug into an electrical outlet and stay around 102 degrees. It keeps their feet warm, which is where they lose a lot of heat.
