You found two that added to your weight right? It’s fun! Don’t let it discourage you. Do it again. I watched a video last week where this guy bought a box and was averaging 2-3 silver dimes per roll.
I purchased a box of dimes today 3/23/10, and picked out two – 1960 & 1964 out of one roll. The other 49 were a bust. Like Mike, I like to find those dimes.
i found 1 frank in 100$ of halfves but im still happy =]
save copper pennies
wrong its called 46 years of people plucking them out of circulation. and the US mint removing melting them down
Hi Jason…….I think you’re right. Although I wish I knew how they made their way to the Bank. I think even an older man knew he could have gotten double their face value from a friend. I THINK……someone robbed one of his/hers parents coin collection. :<(
I think brinks weighs dimes individually now and therefore the silver is sorted out. This was confirmed when I got 2500 dimes from the bank and found 0 silver dimes.
@MYAR15SaysImFree
I just watched a video this morning where a guy purchased a box of dimes and he was opening them in from of the camera and getting 3 and 4 silver dimes per roll. Here’s the link.

I will continue to roll search. I only got 3 40% Kennedys out of $610.00 a week ago. Anyone still find silver quarters. I t just seems that they would change hands more than any other coin type, therefore making them very well picked over. 5*****
It doesn’t get any better than that does it bassman39466?
when i was working in fast food one week we bought over $300 in dimes i bought $120 worth and the boss got the rest .. they were all murcey dimes i only got 5 rosivelt dimes in all the rolls. and i love the fact i only paid dime for dime
@radiospirit You are exactly right! Did you know that as a rule, the tellers can’t exchange that money to their own holdings?
Now….that’s not to say that it doesn’t happen :>)
@WhyMeWhySilver Well, if that is the case, then there is an entire line of ignorant people at hand.
To think that a thief would steal silver halves and not be aware of their true value. Yes, most thieves are of lower intelligence.
However, the bank also didn’t look to see if they were silver!!!
Think of the amount of ignorance that was involved for you to acquire this loot!!!
It staggers the mind…
The best of luck to you Detroit…..and stay out of those park fountains LOL!
The true testament in life is those people of whom make much out of a little even be it as it may for sentimental reasons or minimal reasons. I used to look for old coins even in wishing fountains you would find in shopping malls! So keep on searching! If I’m not mistaken – the 1965 – 1969 Kennedy years seen some yearly mintages in the 250,000,000 million ranges so there are a lot of them apparently still sitting around. I just got 134 of them myself but on one stint!! Best of luck to you ladd!
Oh Really!? That was a cool story! Lucky you yes! What a feeling huh?
I continue to do roll searching. I found 2 this week out of a $130.00 purchase (13 rolls). Still that’s free silver and then I turn the remaining back in for someone else to search LOL!
No I didn’t. If you observed my comment I got ‘em just like that all 160 halves of silver content exchanged with me for face value!!! A lady at my workplace knew a lady that lives with her that did not have but no interest in exchanging the half dollars for face value. She had gave 20 halves to the lady I knew in exchange for face value and the lady was going to spend them before she asked me if I wanted them. I said sure and she said the lady had a lot more and the rest was HISTORY. Lucky Me!
Detroit……..yes…….I’d like to know. Did you roll search?
I, earlier this week, being the avid numismatist for some years, secured 160 silver content American halves at face value!! I too had a very elated week myself! 134 of the halves were those very 40% silver variety 1965 through 1969 (no 70’s) in mostly AU condition. 26 of the remaining silver halves were composed of 18 1964 Kennedy Halves both D and Plain mintmarks and 8 Franklin Halves!! All that silver for face value blew my mind away!!! Ask me how I got em’ at face if you’re interested!!
Indeed it was Detroit! I still can’t get over the fact that I was the lucky one. I do wonder at times if someone was unfortunate to have part of their coin collection stolen.
Mike
A truly resplendent find. For I, a numismatist, do know that such is very possible to secure it just takes some individual out there of whom is an old-timer in possession of such and sees or pursues no interest therein pursuant to such that you found and turns them into a bank. It’s fun when one finds a coin or two of silver content but this find is a legendary find. How exciting!!
@moomman89 It was definitely luck moomman :>)
Lucky Dog!
No….you need not have an account established with the bank. All you are doing is conducting an exchange (dollar for dollar)
Mike
yeah! did you and im only 13 yrs old so do i need an account to get the coins or do i just walk up and say i need halves, or wtevr, and do my parents need a bussinesss account?
