why take it out its not needed to be taken out

if i cant see the screen cos its black and i need to back up the data before i send it off for repairs, should i change the harddrive just in case so my data stays as it is?
i messed up my screws trying to get em out -_- why are they in so tight.
If I change the HDD, do I need to reformat the old HDD when I want to put it back in?

@sterbus1 the ps3 does not use the same format as windows so it might not work or it might format the HDD

No it doesn’t, It’s all explained in the manual you can change HDD’s withough voiding the warranty.
